Dr. Carter-Tennie received her PhD in Clinical Sexology at The American Academy of Clinical Sexologists. She is currently working on her second PhD at Nova Southeastern University in Family Therapy.
Dr. Carter-Tennie is a registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern and a peer accepted member of The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapist Healing Arts Institute of South Florida International, Inc. (AAMFT). As founder of (HAISFI), she serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Dr. Carter strives to deliver on HAISFI's mission statement of "Inspiring Hope, Health, & Mental Well-Being".
She has over six years experience providing therapy and is a certified Broward school county school teacher in the area of social Science, with over 5 years experience in the area of ESE, adult and special education.
Dr. Carter-Tennie holds a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, a Masters of Social Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University's (NSU) Graduate School of Humanities. Thelma’s wide-ranging interests have led to studies in Psychology, BDT, REBT, Sexual Trauma, Clinical Sexology, and Research on Early Childhood Sexual Education. In 2016 and 2017 Thelma was nominated by NSU as alumni of the year.
A particular area of interest to her is research on early diagnosis of, and psycho-education regarding, autism. This work lead to her presenting at the Normal University in Beijing, China on the prevalence of autism. Dr. Carter- Tennie also presented at the National Sex Conference in Munich Germany in the summer of 2016.
